Voicing grave concern over the ongoing violence across the country, Hefajat-e-Islam ameer Alama Shah Ahmed Shafi on Wednesday urged the Prime Minister to accept the opposition’s demand for a non-party election-time government and thus create a congenial atmosphere for acceptable polls.

In a statement, the chief of the Islamist group said, “I (Shafi) earnestly request the Prime Minister to create a congenial atmosphere for an acceptable election in the greater interest of the country and its people by accepting the demand of a neutral (election time) government.”

Referring to the ongoing countrywide violence, Shafi said the country’s socioeconomic structure will collapse if the confrontation between the political parties goes on. “The country’s independence will also be at stake.”

He called upon Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to take effective measures to put an end to the violence.

The Hefajat chief also asked the Ulema-Mashayekh to fast on Friday and offer prayers in mosques across the country seeking restoration of peace in the country.

The ruling Awami League and the opposition BNP have been at loggerhead over the composition of the polls-time government, creating the political crisis.
