Selim asks US diplomats to follow norms

Selim

Awami League MP Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim on Sunday asked the US diplomats to follow the diplomatic norms, otherwise the government would be tough on them.

“Follow the diplomatic norms, otherwise we will be tough,” he said standing on a point of order in the Parliament.

He also asked the US diplomats to leave the diplomatic-politics in Bangladesh.

“Don’t forget when your Twin Tower was demolished by the Al-Qaeda and more than four thousand people were killed we were there to express our sympathy,” he said.

He also questioned about the silence of the US diplomats when the BNP-Jamaat terrorists are killing people in the country.

Asking to refrain from doing any conspiracy in Bangladesh, Selim said that the US could not be successful in conspiracy this time as there were failed in 1971 during the Liberation War of the country.

He also said that the government will not allow anyone to interfere in country’s internal affairs.

He said that Jamaat-Hefajat-Taleban all are militant organizations.

Talking about the audio tape allegedly from the Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri has called on the Muslims in Bangladesh to wage a battle to protect Islam. Selim said that this is a grave conspiracy against the country.

The militant leader in the clip charged the government with killing ‘thousands of people’ during last year’s crackdown on the rally by Hifazat-e Islam – in an echo of claims made by the Chittagong-based outfit along with the BNP and the Jamaat.

Speaking in Arabic on the tape released on a website used for militant audios and videos, the Egyptian-born surgeon derides the Bangladesh government for being anti-Islam and secular.

“It used the footage that was made by the Jamaat-e-Islami,” Selim said.

He also said that Jamaat-Hefazat- Zawahiri are talking in the same tune.

Selim said that the people of the country are pious.

He mentioned that Islam is the religion of peace. “Islam always creates, it never destroys. These (Jamaat-Hefazat-Taliban) people made the Islam as the religion of militants. I condemn their move.”

The AL leader said that Zawahiri used the information that was given by the BNP leader in the recent press conference.

He requested the Prime Minister to handle this with iron hand and find out the culprits who are behind this.

Later, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim requested the Prime Minister to direct the law enforcing agencies to unearth who are the local agents behind the tape.

He also asked the BNP to leave Jamaat immediately otherwise it will be destroyed.

Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury said that the politics of BNP is just terrorism and militancy.

Quoting US-based Time Magazine, she said that Zawahiri had visited Bangladesh three times during the BNP-Jamaat regime. “Although it was known with whom he had meetings but it can be said that he came in the country with state patronization,” she said.
