News - SC rejects Quader Mollah’s plea for division in jail
 The Appellate Division on Wednesday rejected a plea seeking a division in jail filed by lifer convict Jamaat-e-Islami assistant secretary general Abdul Quader Mollah for perpetrating crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

A six-member Appellate Division bench, headed by Chief Justice M Muzammel Hossain, passed the order.

Barrister Abdur Razzaq appeared for Quader Mollah while Additional Attorney General MK Rahman for the prosecution.

Meanwhile, the appeal hearing before the apex court against the February 5 judgment by the International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentencing the Jamaat leader to life term imprisonment for war crimes continued for the 12th day.

During the hearing, visiting US Ambassador-at-Large for war crimes issues Stephen J Rapp along with US Embassy official here flanked by Additional Attorney General MK Rahman and Registrar AKM Shamsul Islam entered the courtroom while defence counsel Barrister Abdur Razzaq making his arguments.

Rapp observed the hearing for 30 minutes, court sources said. He also visited the ICTs and observed the trial proceedings for some time.
