SC extends time for gazette on judges’ discipline

The Supreme Court today extended time until November 5 for issuing a gazette notification on the disciplinary rules for lower court judges.

The apex court adjourned till that day (November 5) the hearing on the Masdar Hossain case known as judiciary separation case which deals with the disciplinary rules for the lower court judges.

A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, who is discharging the responsibilities of Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha at present, passed the order following a time petition moved by Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.

In the petition, the attorney general prayed to the Supreme Court to adjourn the hearing on the case for four weeks.

Earlier on August 20, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing on the Masdar Hossain case till today (October 8).

The judiciary was officially separated from the executive in November 2007, but the conduct rules for lower court judges have yet to be finalised.
