The Appellate Division on Wednesday directed the jail authority to produce detained Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in the trial court of Tangail in the next hearing in freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case.
A three-member bench chaired by chief justice SK Sinha also adjourned hearing of his appeal seeking bail until October 15.
The bench passed the order after attorney general Mahbubey Alam informed the court that Amanur was not being produced before the trial court for hearing even after the Appellate Division directed a trial court in Tangail in May to complete the trial of freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case in next six months.
The Appellate Division on May 8 also extended for four months the stay on bail granted to principal accused Awami League MP Amanur Rahman Khan by the High Court Division.
A three-member bench chaired by Chief Justice SK Sinha gave the decisions before adjourning the hearing for four months.
The court passed the order after hearing the government’s appeal opposing bail granted by the High Court to Amanur Rahman on April 13.
On February 3, 2016, the police pressed the charges against Amanur Rahman and 13 others including his three brothers in the murder case.
Faruk, then the publicity secretary of Tangail district Awami League, was shot dead and his body was left in front of his house at Tangail town on January 18, 2013.
Three days later, Faruk’s wife Nahar Ahmed filed a case with Tangail model police station.
Amanur Rahman was sent to jail custody on September 18, 2016 after he surrendered to a Tangail court after remaining absconding.
