Saudi Arabia: 6 Bangladeshi workers killed in car crash

Six Bangladeshi migrant workers, including two brothers, were killed and another was injured in a road accident in Saudi Arabia yesterday.

The accident occurred around 11:30am (Saudi local time) when a car carrying the workers collided head-on with another car in eastern province’s Qatif town, around 350 kilometres off the capital Riyadh, Golam Moshi, Bangladesh ambassador to Saudi Arabia, told The Daily Star over phone.

The dead are Shahidul Islam and his brother Babul, of Ujirpur upazila in Barisal, Rafiqul Islam, of Patuakhali, Sirajul Islam, Rana and Sharif, of Bhola, said Sarwar Alam, counsellor (Labour) at the embassy.

Injured Saiful was admitted to a local hospital, he added.

The embassy officials visited the accident spot and the hospital. It has already informed the victims’ families.

“We will continue our efforts to send back the victims’ bodies to Bangladesh as soon as possible. We will also try our best so that the victims’ families get compensation,” counsellor Sarwar added.
