Salim Osman gets Jatiya Party ticket to contest N’ganj-5 by-polls

President of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers & Exporters’ Association (BKMEA) AKM Salim Osman on Wednesday got opposition Jatiya Party’s nomination to contest the Narayanganj-5 by-polls to be held on June 26.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s Parliamentary committee.

After the meeting, Jatiya Party secretary general Ziauddin Bablu told reporters that Salim Osman was declared the party candidate for the polls as per a decision of its chairman HM Ershad.

The parliamentary constituency fell vacant following the death of Jatiya Party MP Nasim Osman, brother of AKM Selim Osman. He died on April 30 at the age of 65 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in India.

Meanwhile, at an Awami League Parliamentary Board meeting, the ruling party decided not to contest the polls.
