Sagar-Runi murder: Probe report delayed for 66th time

The murder triggered widespread outrage in the journalist community

A Dhaka court on Wednesday fixed August 5 for submission of the probe report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debobroto Biswas set the date after Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) failed to file the report, said the court’s general registration officer of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police.

Till now, the Sagar-Runi murder trial probe report submission has been deferred 66 times.

On Feb 12, 2012, Maasranga Television News Editor Sagar Sarowar and ATN Bangla Senior Reporter Meherun Runi were stabbed to death in the bedroom of their apartment in Dhaka’s West Razabazar neighbourhood.

Later, eight suspects were arrested in connection with the couple’s murder.

Different courts have expressed dissatisfaction over the investigation on several occasions. The murder triggered widespread outrage in the journalist community.
