Sagar-Runi Murder: Inu regrets admin’s failure in unearthing mystery

Govt does not support extrajudicial killing, he says

Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu on Tuesday regretted failure of the administration in unearthing the mystery behind the murder of journalist-couple Sagar and Runi although two years have passed after the tragic incident.

“I’m sorry and express my regret. Although being delayed, yet (mystery behind) the killing will be uncovered as the government is sincere in this regard,” he said at press conference at the secretariat.

On February 11, 2012, Maasranga Television News Editor Sagar Sarowar and his wife, ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi, were stabbed to death by unidentified people at their rented apartment in the city’s Razabazar area.

Asked about BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s recent press briefing on forced disappearance of her party activists, the Information Minister said her (Khaleda) statement was utterly false and she is plotting to create mayhem anew in the country through such campaign.

He alleged that deviating from normal politics Khaleda Zia has adopted the path of falsehood and anarchy as her political strategy by which she is trying to save her party activists living behind bars for creating anarchy before and after the 10th parliamentary polls.

Calling her ‘the queen of falsehood and turmoil’, Inu urged Khaleda Zia to shun the path of destruction.

He said the government doesn’t support extrajudicial killings. If any such incident occurs then the matter would be brought under trial after investigation.

Asked whether killing by police firing is crossfire, the Information Minister said some people have died in the incidents following attacks on policemen and police stations.
