The owners of readymade garment factories have assured the State Minister for Labour Mujibul Haque Chunnu about paying faction of ongoing month’s salary and festival allowance to the workers by July 26.

The RMG owners have taken the decision in a tripartite meeting among BGMEA, BKMEA, BTMA leaders, RMG factory owners and the government officials at the ministry on Tuesday.

State Minister for Labour Mujibul Haque Chunnu said: “The owners will pay faction of ongoing month’s salary and festival allowance to the RMG workers ahead of Eid so that they can celebrate the festival with their families peacefully.”

Asked about the detective agency’s report on 156 RMG factories, the minister said: “Those factory owners did not ask for any cooperation regarding their crisis in providing salary and festival allowance to the RMG workers. The government is ready to help as soon as they ask for any.”

BKMEA’s first Vice President MA Hatem said: “The Department of Inspection of Factories and Establishment (DIFE) along with BGMEA, BKMEA and BTMA has formed a control room to avoid any kind of unrest in the RMG sector.

“The authority of the control room will take action as soon as they receive information about any untoward situation.”
