RMG workers demonstrate in N’ganj seeking Siddique’s rescue

Fake number plate used in abductors’ vehicle

 

Workers of Hamid Fashions Ltd, a garment factory where abducted businessman AB Siddique worked as the managing director, demonstrated at Fatullah here on Thursday morning demanding Siddique’s quick rescue.

 

Miscreants abducted AB Siddique, husband of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, the chief executive of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers’ Association (Bela), from Fatullah area on Dhaka-Narayanganj link road on Wednesday.

 

Rizwana filed a case with Fatullah Model Police Station on Wednesday night in connection with the incident but the missing businessman could not be traced till Thursday afternoon.

 

Witnesses said the workers of Hamid Fashions, owned by State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu, took to the streets around 10 am and staged demonstrations demanding immediate steps to rescue Siddique.

 

At one stage, they put barricades on Dhaka-Narayanganj link road, disrupting vehicular movement for some time.

 

Later, the agitated workers moved towards BKMEA office at Chashara and staged demonstration there.

 

They also laid a siege to Deputy Commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum seeking Siddique’s immediate rescue. Additional deputy commissioner Mahmudur Rahman Habib talked to the workers and informed them of their steps taken for rescuing the abducted businessman.

 

Different environmental organisations also staged rallies and formed human chains to press for the demand.

 

Meanwhile, police said abductors used fake number plate in the microbus which was used in the abduction.

 

Narayanganj police super Syed Nurul Islam told reporters that the blue microbus of the abductors crossed Mayor Hanif flyover toll plaza at 2:53 pm. “The number of the microbus was Ctg metro Ga-17-8327. But BRTA authorities said it’s a fake number,” he added.
