The senior leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Monday called restoring democracy taking inspiration from the spirit of Language movements and war of independence.
The party leaders and the pro-BNP intellectual came down harsh on the current use of distorted Bangla language in mass media.
They raised their voice and concerns this afternoon at a discussion,  organised by BNP at the Engineers’ Institution to mark the Shahid Dibosh and International Mother Language Day.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who presided over the discussion progarmme, said that a fresh movement is needed to protect the country’s culture, democracy and people’s fundamental rights.
He said there is no way out without democracy and no alternative to restore it without movement.
Fakhrul regretted that February 21 has now turned into a ‘function’ and ‘festival’ which is nothing but ‘hypocrisy’.
He said that now many people do not know why martyrs made the supreme sacrifices for language.
Fakhrul said key seed of independence war was sowed on February 21 in 1952 that resulted in the freedom of Bangladesh.
He said language movement took place with the spirit of democracy and people joined the war of independence in 1971 with the spirit of democracy which is now shattered.
