The government is going to start countrywide registration from early April for sending female workers to various countries, including Hong Kong and Singapore.

“The registration process for sending female workers to different countries, including that of the Middle East, will begin on April 7,” said Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Sunday.

He was speaking at a press briefing at Probashi Kalyan Bhaban in the capital.

Expatriates’ Welfare Secretary Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan and director general of Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) Begum Shamsun Nahar were, among others, present.

The minister said the five-day registration process will begin in Rajshahi, Rangpur and Sylhet divisions on March 7 while in Khulna and Chittagong divisions on April 12 and in Dhaka and Barisal divisions on April 17.

He said the age of the intending female workers has to be between 25 and 45 years for getting registered.

Replying to a query, Khandaker Mosharraf said the workers who will be sent to Hong Kong and Singapore as housekeepers will get salary equivalent to about Tk 40,000. “The salary of workers to be sent to other countries as nurses and caregivers would be 40,000-85,000.”
