Real estate and housing developers on Saturday alleged that a big amount of money was laundered abroad from Bangladesh as the government did not give people facility to invest their undisclosed money in the real estate sector without being questioned over the source of the fund.
Demanding an indemnity for investment of undisclosed money in the housing sector, the realtors at a press conference said that the sector was passing through a serious crisis due to some policy indecision and a number of people became jobless due to the crisis.
In the press conference at the Sonargaon Hotel in the capital, the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh announced that the five-day REHAB Fair 2015 would start from December 23 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.
REHAB senior vice-president Rabiul Haque said that more than 150 companies including financial institutions and building material companies would set up stalls at the fair venue and no unapproved products would be allowed to be displayed at the stalls.
He hoped that the fair would be successful and it would be helpful to overcome the crisis the sector had been facing since last political turmoil.
‘We hope that the real estate sector would rebound within one year if the government allows a revolving fund for the sector,’ Rabiul said.
He also said that if there was a scope for investment of undisclosed money in the real estate sector without any question over the source of the fund, the money would not have been laundered from Bangladesh.
Housing and public works minister Mosharraf Hossain is expected to inaugurate the fair.
REHAB vice-president Liaquat Ali Bhuiyan and fair standing committee co-chairman Shakil Kamal Chowdhury were also present at the briefing.
