Rangpur Riders returned to winning ways, registering an exciting 12-run win over Barisal Bulls in the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20’s fourth edition at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the port city on Thursday.

It was an intense battle between the two sides as Barisal fought right till the very end before eventually managing 163 all out in pursuit of Rangpur’s 175/6.

Barisal’s Sri Lankan opening batsman Jeevan Mendis top-scored with 57 off 53 balls with three fours and as many sixes while Nadif Chowdhury, playing his first match of the competition, kept their hopes alive scoring a quick 25-ball 41, comprising three sixes.

But after Nadif’s departure, Barisal lost their way. At one stage, they required 42 runs from the last three overs but the fall of regular wickets halted their momentum as they were bundled out with two balls to spare.

Off spinner Sohag Gazi bowled brilliantly, picking up 3/19 from 3.4 overs while pacer Rubel Hossain and Pakistan superstar Shahid Afridi took two wickets each.

Earlier, Rangpur posted 175/6 after being asked to take first guard, courtesy player of the match Mohammad Mithun’s blistering 44-ball 62, studded with half a dozen fours and two sixes, while English recruit Liam Dawson scored a 36-ball 46.
