RAJUK orders demolition of a tilted building

Capital Dhaka’s development authority (RAJUK) has ordered demolition of a three-storied building that precariously leaned over another in the city’s Demra.

Officials said ‘Eva Manjil’ in Sarulia east Hazinagar started slanting towards an adjacent building since Sunday.

Fire service official Farhaduzzaman said they had rushed to the spot and moved out residents from the two buildings.

RAJUK’s Authorised Officer-4 Afsar Uddin has told bdnews24.com that owner of the building has been ordered to pull down the building for safety.

Officials say they are probing whether the owner had obtained prior permissions and followed building codes in constructing the building.

Demra police SI Harun-ar-Rashid told bdnews24.com that gas and power connections to both buildings had been disconnected since Sunday night.

The buildings have been locked and law enforcers are deployed in the area, he said.

Only three days ago, an under-construction 10-storied building leaned in Maghbazar. No one was injured.

In April, nine-storied Rana Plaza collapsed in Savar killing over 1100 people, mostly garment factory workers employed by manufacturing units housed in the complex.
