After over a month-long gap, the government has further decided to deploy the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in different additional duties, including patrolling the city streets.

Following the government directives, the higher authorities of the RAB claimed to have already been deployed in the field since Wednesday evening.

RAB’s Media Wing Director and Wing Commander, ATM Habibur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune: “The elite force will patrol the streets again after staying away from additional duties for more than a month as per an order of the home ministry.”

While contacted, Home State Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal  said: “The government has decided to engage the RAB in patrolling streets so that the law and order situation could not be deteriorated during the holy Ramadan in different metropolitan cities.”

Following different allegations, including the involvement in Narayanganj seven-murder case, RAB decided not to take part in any additional work outside set duties.
