Question of Babul’s involvement hasn’t come yet: Minister

Asaduzzaman Khan KamalHome minster Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Tuesday the authorities never said that police super Babul Akter, whose wife was murdered in Chittagong, is under police surveillance in connection with the killing of his wife.

“We never said that he (Babul) is under our surveillance. The question of Babul Akter’s involvement or the question of holding him responsible [for the killing] has not come yet,” Asaduzzaman said while talking to newsmen after a discussion organised by the Department of Narcotics Control in Dhaka.

On interrogating Babul, the minister said, “The suspected killers were made to face Babul so that he could try to identify them or could help reveal the mystery. Video footage analysis made it clear who had killed her. We nabbed most of them, and the process to arrest the rest is going on.”

“Keep patience. We can disclose everything after receiving intelligence report. Please bear with us,” he added.

Earlier on Friday night, SP Babul Akter was taken from his in-laws’ residence to DB office for interrogation. Police released him 15 hours after he picked up by members DB.

On 5 June, unidentified miscreants gunned down Mahmuda Khanam Mitu at the port city’s GEC intersection while she went there to drop her son, Mahir Akhter, 7, for a bus to Chittagong Cantonment Public School and College.
