Quamrul wants to debate with BNP leaders over Tarique claim

Accusing the BNP leaders of resorting to lies along with its senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman, Food Minister Quamrul Islam threw a challenge on Wednesday to engage in debate over Tarique’s recent remarks about Bangabandhu.

“If you (BNP leaders) have any documents, you can come up to any TV channel or any other place. I’m ready to debate with you. As a joint secretary of Awami League city unit, a cabinet member and freedom fighter I’m challenging you,” he said.

He said this while addressing an extended meeting of Awami League Dhaka City unit held at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.

“A little boy who didn’t see the country’s Liberation War has started lying about Mujibnagar government and Bangabandhu ….And BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir backs his speech,” the minister said.

“Those distorting the country’s Liberation War history are carrying out information terrorism,” observed the minister adding, “We’ve to fight together against the liars and intellectually corrupt people. Our fight will continue until we defeat them.”

AL city unit vice-president Foyez Uddin Mia, joint secretary Awlad Hossain, organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad, among others, spoke at the programme held with its acting president MA Aziz in the chair.
