Awami League General Secretary Obaidul has said his party does not have any problem if the general election schedule is deferred by a month.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the statement while talking to the press during sale of nomination forms, at the party president’s office in Dhanmondi on Sunday.

He said: “We have no objection if the Election Commission postpones the upcoming general election.”

“It is fully a matter of the Election Commission. We have already accepted their decision and therefore will not object if they delay the schedule. But if they do change the date, the reason for it should be logical,” Quader said.

The Awami League leader’s comments came just before the Jatiya Oikya Front had announced that it will participate in the election but demanded that it be deferred by a month.

Earlier on November 8, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda announced that the 11th general election will be held across Bangladesh on December 23.

The Election Commission however has a constitutional binding to hold the election by January 28 of 2019.
