Punjab Provincial Assembly: Resolution seeks ‘Nishan-e-Pakistan’ for executed Jamaat leaders

Punjab Provincial Assembly in Pakistan on Tuesday passed a resolution seeking conferment of ‘Nishan-e-Pakistan’ on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leaders who were executed for ‘siding with Pakistan’ during 1971 Liberation War, reported dunyanews.tv.

Allauddin Shaikh, a member of provincial assembly from the Pakistan Muslim League led by Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif, proposed the resolution on Monday against the executions of Jamaat leaders in Bangladesh on war crimes charges.
The resolution stated that Jamaat leaders were executed for their ‘pro-Pakistan stance’ and should be honoured with Nishaan-e-Pakistan award.
Nishan-e-Pakistan is the highest civil award and decoration conferred by the Pakistan government for the highest degree of service to the country and nation.
The Punjab Provincial Assembly earlier in the second week of May passed a resolution moved by its leader of the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Mehmoodur Rasheed after Jamaat amir Motiur Rehman Nizami was hanged.
Nizami was hanged at Dhaka Central Jail on May 10 for crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 War of Independence. This was the fifth case of execution of war crimes convicts in the country.
