‘Prepare for polls, not strike’

The party feels her remarks at the 18-Party alliance’s Friday rally in Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Udyan were ‘illogical, inert and aggressive’.

After her address, Awami League Presidium member Mohammad Nasim said, “We had hoped the Opposition leader will say something with responsibility. But her speech has made the nation disconsolate and concerned.”

Khaleda Zia has announced a nationwide 60-hour shutdown from 6am on Oct 27 to 6pm on Oct 29 if the government does not start a dialogue on the polls-time government in the next two days.

“But if the government comes up with positive proposals for a dialogue in the next two days, we will continue the negotiations but also continue the movement on the streets,” she said.

Speaking at a press briefing at the ruling party President’s Dhanmondi office, Mohammd Nasim said, “You have come to Suhrawardy Udyan from Paltan. And you will participate in the elections and it will be an all-party one.”

“Khaleda Zia has spoken for the anti-independence forces at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan. She has said such illogical, inert and aggressive things,” he said.
