Police on Thursday stopped the marchers of the Garment Workers’ Trade Union Centre towards Prime Minister’s Office in front of  Kadam Fountain near Press Club.
The marchers were agitating in demand of reopening of a garment factory.
However, a team of the organisation led by its president Mantu Ghosh, was allowed to go to the prime minister’s office and hand over a memorandum.
Prior to the march, at a protest rally in front of the National Press Club, the adviser to the organisation labour leader Manzurul Ahsan Khan demanded reopening of Swan Garments Private Limited within July 10. The Swan factory is situated at Dakkhin Khan in the city.
The owners closed the factory illegally before three months and more than 1,300 workers were suffering much without wages, he  said.
The owners must pay the arrears and dues of the workers as per labour law,  Manzur said.
KM Ruhul Amin, the general secretary of the organisation said that their organisation would wage tougher movements if the workers of the factory were deprived from their rights.
The same  owners also closed the Swan Jeans factory at the same time, Ruhul Amin said. Chaired by executive president of the organisation, Sadequr Rahman Shamim, garment labour leaders Mahbub Alam, Ziaul Kabir Khokan, Manzur Main, Minara Begum and others spoke at the rally.
