PM’s UAE visit is a failure: BNP

Mirza-Fakhrul

“What is the net result? The hiring of female domestic workers by that country will continue. But no deals regarding new workers have been signed. It means the prime minister’s UAE visit has failed,” acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Tuesday.

Bangladesh has signed three agreements with the UAE during Hasina’s visit between Oct 25 and 27.

The agreements are on transfer of prisoners, security collaboration, and land allotment for the UAE embassy in Dhaka.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also inked to guarantee the security and rights of the Bangladesh women working there.

Under the agreement, UAE will recruit 1,000 female workers from Bangladesh in 14 job categories including housemaids, drivers, and gardeners.

The country has also agreed to post a labour attaché in its Dhaka embassy to simplify the process of hiring workers from Bangladesh.

The senior BNP leader said that the government was not taking any initiative to protect the people of the country. “I tell the government, let people live peacefully, or else, you will be not spared.”

Speaking at a discussion on Tuesday, Mirza Fakhrul alleged that the government was harassing BNP activists by prosecuting them in ‘false cases’.
