 Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday emphasised activating the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) and Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) signed between Bangladesh and Iran.The Prime Minister said this when visiting Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade of Islamic Republic of Iran Mahdi Ghazanfari met  her at her official residence Ganobhaban.

After the meeting, PM’s press secretary Abul Kalam Azad briefed reporters.

During the meeting, Sheikh Hasina said Tehran can recruit Bangladeshi seamen for Iran’s shipping lines.

Appreciating Iran’s progress and development in science and technology, the Prime Minister said Bangladesh supports Tehran’s rights to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

She also urged Tehran authorities to consider more scholarships for Bangladeshi students to study in Iran.

During the meeting, the Iranian minister termed the relationship between the two countries as historical and traditional.

Besides, the economic and trade relations, particularly cultural link, between the two countries have indeed constructed a strong foundation of the relationship between the two sides, Mahdi Ghazanfari added.

He also appreciated Bangladesh government’s successful rescue operation after the building collapse at Savar recently.

Ambassador at-Large M Ziauddin and Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Hossein Aminian Tousi were, among others, present on the occasion.
