PM, opposition leader at Bangabandhu cup final

In a rare historical moment of the country, the Prime Minister and the opposition leader on Sunday sat on a stage together.

 

People of the county witnessed the the historical event this afternoon when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presented the prizes of Bangabandhu Gold Cup Primary School Football Tournament (for boys) and Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Gold Cup Primary School Football Tournament (for girls) with the opposition leader Raushan Ershad by her side at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.

 

This is the first time in the history of the country where the head of the government and the opposition leader make such a move.

 

While sitting on the stage both were seen exchanging chit-chat between them.

 

In the final of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup Primary School Tournament -2013,  Beradanga Sotapir Jadurhat Government Primary School of Ranpur clinhed the chamnionship beating Barishal Uttar Korapur Government Primary School by 4-2 goals in the tie braker as the match was 1-1 draw in the stipulated time.

 

In the final of Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Gold Cup Primary School Tournament-2013 in which Kalosindur Government Primary School of Dhubawra, Mymensing won the chapionship beating Moghachhari Government Primary School of Kawkhali, Rangamati by 4 goals to one.

 

Shahin of Beradanga Sotapir Jadurhat Government Primary School and Tahura Begum of Kalosindur Government Primary School of Dhubawra, Mymensing were adjudged as best players for the two tournaments respectively.

 

The Prime Minister distributed trophies of the two tournaments among the wining teams.

 

She also handed over one lakh taka cheque to each of the champion teams and a 75 thousand taka cheque to each of the runners up teams.

 

While delivering her speech, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said her government has given priority on sports and games side by side with education as it provides physical and mental strength to children.

 

She said, sports and games groom the children up as worthy citizens of the country and the government always provides all supports to develop the sector.

 

In this regard, she mentioned that arrangement of Bangabandhu Gold Cup and Bangamata Fazilatunnisa Gold Cup Football Tournament is playing important role in developing players for the future of the country.

 

The Prime Minister mentioned that over 62 thousand teams took part in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup Primary School Tournament-2013 while 62,261 teams participated in the Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Gold Cup  Primary School Football Tournament-2013 that began in June last year.

 

Expressing her satisfaction over the sports quality of the children, Sheikh Hasina hoped that future players of the country would come out from them and Bangladesh would reach to its desired goal.

 

The Prime Minister opined that sports and games plays important role in maintaining healthy life and sound mind as it teaches discipline, responsibility, dutifulness and tolerance.

 

Sheikh Hasina hoped that these tournaments would help build the sense of quality leadership, competiveness, team spirit, unity and discipline among the students.

 

In this context, she also put emphasis on arranging more football tournaments in Upazila and district level alongside Bangabandhu Gold Cup and Begum Fazilatunnisa Gold Cup Football Tournaments saying these would help flourish the latent talents on sports of our children.

 

Leader of the opposition Begum Rowshan Ershad, Primary and Mass Education Minister Mustafizur Rahman and Deputy Minister for Sports Arif Khan Joy were present.

 

Earlier, arriving at the stadium, the Prime Minister also witnessed the match between Kalosindur Government Primary School of Dhubawra, Mymensing and Moghachhari Government Primary School of Kawkhali, Rangamati.

 

Before beginning of the match, the child singers chanted the theme song of the ceremony riding in a decorated vehicle that went round the stadium.
