PM blames BNP for abductions, killings

The premier says BNP wrote to the US for a stop to GSP facility for Bangladesh

BNP is responsible for the recent abductions and killings that are taking place throughout the country, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said.

“BNP have called for ambush attacks. It is in their nature. They are responsible for the secret killings throughout the country,” she said at a rally on Thursday.

“When BNP was in power, Bangladesh was globally known as a terrorist state. But with Awami League in power, the country is now a role model for development.”

The premier was speaking at a rally of the Sramik League at Gazipur on the May Day.

‘Khaleda wrote to stop GSP’

The premier has said that Khaleda Zia wrote to the United States to stop the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) for Bangladesh.

“Later when she was asked about it, she said she knew nothing.”

“Khaleda Zia was given the pillow by her foreign friends when she took up her complaints with them ahead of the general election in the country,” Hasina said.

“I have no idea who gave her advices not to participate in the poll. Now she has received a cold blow.”

Pulling references in relevance to May Day, the premier said a previous government of the BNP retaliated with killing workers moving for a pay hike.

“They shot down 18 farmers when they were in power.”

“Now during the Awami League rule, a farmer can open a bank account with Tk10. They have received seeds, there was no shortage of fertilisers.”

“She (Khaleda) says she will open all the closed factories if elected to power. But instead, she shut down Adamzee Jute Mill and all other factories in Chittagong, Sirajganj, Khulna and Gazipur.”

“She left those workers to beg in the streets. Many of those workers died trying to feed their family. Many committed suicide,” the premier said.

“BNP shut down factories, and Awami League reopened them. We reopened 23 factories.”

The rally was attended by thousands of supporters of the Sramik League and central Awami League leaders including Tofail Ahmed, Matia Chowdhury, Shahjahan Khan and others.
