PM accuses Khaleda of killing people

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday alleged that the opposition leader, Khaleda Zia, is killing people under the guise of various plots at a time when the trial of war criminals is going on.

“When they (BNP) were in power, they only resorted to corruption and killed people…they only know how to kill people. The country would have to be freed from their hands,” she said at a public rally at Bera College ground in Pabna.

Earlier, after arriving here from Sirajganj, the prime minister inaugurated the Bera 70MW Peaking Power Plant.

Hasina said that before assuming office this time, her party had pledged to try the war criminals. “We kept our promise….our target is to free the country from a stigma.”

The present Awami League government is doing whatever necessary for ensuring socio-economic development of the country, she added.

The prime minister alleged that those who captured power after 1975 have destroyed the spirit of the War of Liberation and the country could not witness much progress during that time as the anti-liberation forces were in power.

She extended heartfelt thanks to the local people for electing Shamsul Haque Tuku from that constituency defeating “a war criminal, chief of Al infamous Al-Badr Matiur Rahman Nizami.”

Earlier, the prime minister inaugurated the Sonatala Bridge on Ullapara-Belkuchi road at Ullapara in Sirajganj district.

After inaugurating the bridge, the prime minister urged the people to vote for Awami League in the next general elections to serve the country in the next term.

“I want your pledge, you will vote for ‘Boat’ in the next general elections,” she said amid applause at a local gathering.

She said that ‘boat’ (AL’s election symbol) brought independence for the country and now the AL has been implementing various development activities.

The 347.29 meter-long bridge on river Korotoa is 10.25 meter wide having 8 spans. The construction of the bridge began on October 30, 2010 and completed on December 31, 2012.

Hasina said that this bridge would improve the communication system of the area and also flourish industrial activities, thus creating employment opportunity.

The prime minister said that her government has ensured the voting rights of people through the 15th amendment of the constitution.

She also highlighted various achievements of the government including increasing food production, free distribution of textbooks up to secondary level and gaining much progress towards building ‘Digital Bangladesh
