People want change, says Khaleda

Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia Wednesday night said people want to ‘change’ the current state of misrule, corruption and repression. She said BNP will bring change and establish good governance. The BNP chief was addressing a function at her Gulshan office on the occasion of the launch of a book titled ‘Acutobhoy Deshnayok’ published by Bogra district BNP to mark 50th birthday of BNP senior-vice chairman Tarique Rahman. Bogra district BNP concluded its 10-day programme to celebrate Tarique’s birthday unveiling the cover page of the book. Khaleda, flanked by acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Bogra BNP leaders, unwrapped the cover of the book. The BNP chairperson said the incumbent government had broken all previous records of corruption, oppression and repression. She said people want to get out of this repressive state and want peace. Khaleda said no one was safe, both inside and outside of their homes, living in fear of killing and enforced disappearances. The BNP chairperson claimed people were now behind her party, on evidence of the huge public meetings during her recent visits to different districts, including Kishoreganj, Natore, and Nilphamari. She lauded Bogra BNP for successfully leading the movement to protest the January 5 one-sided general elections. She urged the leaders of Bogra district BNP to remain united and strengthen the organisation.
