People to give final lesson to govt thru ballot in next polls: BNP MP

Opposition lawmaker Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokan on Wednesday said in Parliament that people will give the final lesson to the government through ballot in the next national elections for its misrule.“You’re afraid of the caretaker government. That’s why you’re not giving it. Movement will continue until this demand is met. And people will give you the final lesion in the next polls,” he said.

The BNP MP elected from Noakhali-1 came up with the remarks while taking part in the discussion on the proposed budget for the next year, criticizing the government for what he said its corruption, misrule, tender manipulation and killings.

He mentioned the people’s verdict in the recently held elections to four city corporations and also in the Chittagong City Corporation polls held a couple of years back.

Mahbub Uddin alleged that the government has made the graft watchdog body – Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) – a toothless institution and mentioned the recent remark of the outgoing ACC chairman Ghulam Rahman in this regard.

“The ACC has lost its both upper and lower teeth falling in the hands of the Prime Minister. When the new government will come, the ACC will get back new teeth and will bite the corrupt persons,” he said.

He said huge amount of money was “looted” in the name of quick rental power plants. “Where this electricity has gone? The power generation is in writings only, not in reality. Because of the government’s corruption 16 crore people of the country are suffering from electricity crisis.”

Alleging that the government has politicized the administration and made some brilliant officials as OSD to take advantage in the next national elections, the BNP lawmaker said: “It won’t work. No one will be spared. People have emerged with new promise.”

He apprehended that the budget allocations will be plundered as the government has announced it will hand over power by October 25.

On BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman, he said Tarique Rahman has no wealth abroad and the treasury bench MPs are giving out false information in the House.

He also said no body has broken the conditions of parole but the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who gave political speech in London going there on parole.

Mahbub Uddin criticized the government for drives against the Hefajat-e-Islam and claimed that there were killings.

He also criticized the government for its “corruption” in the Padma Bridge project and the Railway sector.

The BNP MP claimed that the law and order situation has deteriorated sharply in the last four years of the present government.

He expressed dissatisfaction over the recent unhealthy debates and hoped that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as Leader of the House will take step in this regard so that no one can speak ill about a dead person and those not present in Parliament.

“The Prime Minister can’t avoid the responsibility of what had happened in the House,” said Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon.
