Pass bill to control hartal: MP

parliament

Jatiya Party MP Mujibul Haque Chunnu on Sunday in Parliament sought initiative from the Leader of the House to pass his private members bill on controlling hartal to help people get relief from destruction in the name of hartals.

“Hartal isn’t a constitutional right. It’s not a language of democracy. The nation is looking at Parliament for a decision. For God’s sake, pass my bill to control hartal,” he said, rising on a point of order.

Chunnu said nobody wants hartal as it is destroying economy, public property and killing people. “Three years back, I brought the bill so that hartal can only be enforced in public interest.”

The Jatiya Party MP said he mentioned in his bill to realize compensation from those who will enforce hartal. “If the party fund lacks required money for compensation, the compensation will have to be paid by confiscating assets of the party’s key leaders.”

He said such unrestricted hartal can not be allowed as it is snapping country’s communication system and students have not been able to sit for exams. “Don’t waste time talking on point of order. Take initiative and pass my bill before Parliament is over.”

Chunnu also suggested in his bill to bring to book the ‘order-giver’ who will stay at home enforcing hartal.

JSD MP Moinuddin Khan Badal said the ineffectiveness of hartal is visible in the country. “Those days are not too far when people will give a befitting reply to those calling hartal.”

Crticizing BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, he said: “She (Khaleda) doesn’t care how many people are killed.”

Awami League MP Kamal Ahmed Majumdar alleged that the opposition is hiring terrorists to create violence and killing people in the name of hartal. “We need to pass a bill to stop hartal before Parliament is over.”

  1. Since people do not like or want hartal, why does the party calling hartal claim it a demand of the people? They are liar and do not care for the interest of the people. In the name of hartal there are loss of invaluable lives, damage of public property and enormous suffering of people. This should be stopped once for all.

I fully endorse and support the view of MP Chunnu for having the JS pass bill stopping this anarchy.
