Four operatives of the banned militant outfit, Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh, including a Pakistan national, were held from Dhaka airport and Khilgaon respectively, detective branch of police said on Monday.
The arrestees, Idris Sheikh, Mokbul Sharif, Salam and Mostofa Jaman, were linked to Pakistan-based militant outfits, the DB claimed.
The operatives held in raids that followed tips. Twenty-six jihadi books, three passports, five mobile phones and some amount of foreign currencies were also seized from their possessions, Dhaka Metropolitan Police joint commissioner (DB) Monirul Islam said at a news briefing at DMP headquarters.
‘They were brewing subversive acts and stirring up instability in Bangladesh,’ Monir said.
Idris is a Pakistani passport holder while the others are Bangladesh nationals and visited Pakistan several times.
Idris carried a spy mobile phone belonging to a foreign intelligence agency and used to send documents and information to a designated intelligence official, Monir said.
He, however, did not disclose the name of the foreign intelligence agency or the official with whom Idris had correspondence.
They all used to maintain liaison with a female diplomat of a high commission in Dhaka, Monir claimed.
Their main source of funds was Pakistan-made counterfeit Indian currency that they smuggled into Bangladesh and India, the DB official said.
