Outlaw killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

An outlawed party leader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police near Uthuli Bridge in Khoksa upazila early Sunday.

 

The deceased, Fazlur Rahman Fazlu, was leader of Gonomukti Fouja, an outlawed party, and ringleader of ‘Fazlu Bahini’. He hailed from Kumarkhali upazila of the district.

 

Police Super Mafiz Uddin Ahmed said on secret information that a group of extremists was holding a clandestine meeting in the area at about 4:00am, a team of police of Detective Branch (DB) launched a drive in the area.

 

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Fazlu and his cohorts opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.

 

Fazlu was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while others managed to flee the scene.

 

Police also recovered one 9MM pistol, one revolver, one pipe gun, two LG guns, two sharp weapons and 20 rounds of bullet from the spot.

 

Fazlu was wanted in several cases including of a murder case, police said.
