Oppression of women turns into epidemic: Khaleda

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson, Khaleda Zia, on Thursday claimed that presently oppression of women turned into an epidemic due to ‘oppressive misrule.’
The position of Bangladesh is on the top level in the world in terms of oppression of women, Khaleda said in a message issued on the occasion of birth and death anniversaries of Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain, a pioneer of women rights movement.
The BNP chairperson said that helpless women were being victims to tragic oppression as audacity of criminals highly increased due to ‘oppressive misrule.’
Khaleda, also former prime minister, said that still women were falling victims to various deprivations in the society, although progress had been made in many areas in the society.
She said that all irrespective of male and female needed to come forward in bold steps to materialise dream of Begum Rokeya removing anarchy from the country of Rokeya.
Khaleda said Begum Rokeya was a pioneer of awakening women of this country and aim of her lifelong struggle was freedom of women through spreading education among women.
