Oikya Front to expand, continue joint movement for democracy

Leaders of Jatiya Oikya Front on Monday decided to continue its united movement for establishing democratic rule in the country and expand the combine by including other political parties.

The decision was taken at a meeting of JOF central steering committee at Uttara residence of

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal faction president ASM Abdur Rob.

Rob told reporters at a post-meeting briefing that they had discussed various issues including protest programmes against the government, which would be finalised at a meeting of the steering committee soon.

‘Jatiya Oikya Front was formed for establishing democratic rule in the country and we will also work for expanding the sphere of the alliance,’ Rob said.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Gono Forum, JSD faction, Nagarik Oikya and Krishok Sramik Janata League formed the combine on October 13, 2018, two and a half months before the December 30, 2018 general elections.

The meeting discussed the KSJL president Abdul Kader Siddique’s threat to quit from the combine and dissatisfaction among a number of allies of BNP-led 20-party alliance

about BNP’s participation in JOF.

Following the meeting, JSD faction general secretary Abdul Malek Ratan told New Age that the top leaders of JOF including Gono Forum president Dr Kamal Hossain and Nagarik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna did not attend the meeting due to illness.

Chaired by ASM Abdur Rob, the meeting was attended, among others, by Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Moyeen Khan, Krishok Sramik Janata League president Abdul Kader Siddique, general secretary Habibur Rahman Talukder, Gono Forum general secretary Reza

Kibria, executive presidents Subrata Chowdhury and Professor Abu Sayeed and JSD central leader Tania Rob.
