Government and non-governmental offices, banks and newspaper offices reopened on Sunday amidst festival fever after a three-day holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Visiting the Secretariat and several government offices, it was found that attendance was remarkably thin as many officials and employees were enjoying optional holidays.

Contacted, Public Relations Officers (PRO) of several ministries informed UNB that although the high officials joined the work on Sunday, the lower-rank officers and employees are yet to turn up.

Most of the ministers were still staying at their respective constituencies.

Those who attended offices were seen exchanging Eid greetings and pleasantries with their colleagues.

Meanwhile, trading on the country’s two bourses will resume on Monday.

Traffic in the city streets was also thin. Some small shops opened their shutters.

Most of the people, who went to their ancestral homes for celebrating Eid with their near and dear ones, are yet to return to the capital.

Many of them are expected to turn up by Monday as Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is set to enforce a 48-hour hartal on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The three-day Eid holiday began on Thursday.
