Obaidul slams pro-liberation politicians for ‘lip services’

News - Obaidul slams pro-liberation politicians for ‘lip services’
Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Monday accused the pro-liberation politicians of ‘giving only lip services’ against the ‘silent action’ of their communal opponents over the last four decades.

“Over the last four decades, the communal opponents have become stronger organisationally. They’ve rallied huge public support and arms behind them. They were in silent action over a long period, when we only delivered verbose speeches, gave lip services, gave slogans,” the minister said.

He urged the pro-liberation forces to take lessons from the recent violence at Fatikchhari in Chittagong.

On April 11, three Awami League supporters died in a Jamaat-e-Islam-led attack on an anti-hartal procession in Fatikchhari.

Quader made the remarks while inaugurating Mianbazar Bridge over Kakri River. The bridge was constructed under ‘Dhaka-Chittagong Highway Upgrade Project’.

The minister also slammed politicians for making irresponsible and provocative remarks against their opponents, heightening tensions.
