Obaidul finds positive BNP’s joining UZ polls

Apparently pointing at BNP, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said those who have burned people to death with petrol bombs know the culprits behind the recent incidents of crossfire.

“Those burn people to death with petrol bombs know who are involved with crossfire,” he said while talking to reporters after inaugurating the rest construction works on the Birulia Bridge here.

Obaidul came up with the remark apparently in response to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s speech that extrajudicial killings are being carried out in the country at the state patronage to eliminate the opposition.

Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, Fakhrul on Monday said, “Extrajudicial killings are going on at the state patronage. We think no one is safe since the government is killing people through its crossfire-drama to annihilate the opposition.”

Taking a swipe at the BNP-led alliance, the Quader, also ruling Awami League presidium member, said “They (alliance) have understood their mistakes from the failures of the violent movement they carried out without people’s supports (demanding installation of non-party administration and resisting January 5 polls).”

He went on: “Through amending the mistakes, their hint of joining the (upcoming) upazila parishad polls is positive.”

Local MPs Dr Enamur Rahman and Ilias Uddin Mollah were, among others, present.
