Obaidul fears emergence of unwarranted force if polls not held

Another force might appear on the stage one fine morning if the national election is not held in time, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said on Wednesday stressing that there is no alternative to election to overcome the prevailing crisis.

“Politicians will have to resolve the political crisis. There’s no alternative to election to break the standoff and stop the bleeding centring election. If it doesn’t happen, you’ll see one fine morning the stage is captured by an unwarranted force,” he said.

The Communications Minister came up with the remarks while talking to journalists on his way to visit Dhaka-Munshiganj highway and Muktarpur Bridge approach road.

Obaidul Quader directed the authorities concerned to complete the repair works on the road linked to toll plaza of the Muktarpur Bridge by next 15 days.

He also asked the officials concerned to make the road linked to industrial zone through the bridge usable by seven days, and complete the entire renovation works within the next two months.

The minister also called for gearing up the construction work on Muktarpur-Narayanganj bypass.

He asked the authorities concerned to work in public interest instead of making eyewash in the name of works.

Munshiganj DC M Saiful Hasan Badal, Police Super M Habibur Rahman and additional chief engineer Habibul Haque were, among others, present.
