A day after two audio clips of his telephone conversations on the ongoing movement were leaked, Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna today claimed that there was nothing provocative and conspiratorial in the conversations.

“I am surprised, saddened and shocked by the overall incident,” Manna said in status on his Facebook page. “In my political life, I have never harboured violence and conspiracy.”

Requesting the people to carefully read and listen to his telephone conversations, Manna claimed, “There was no hint of conspiracy or provocation there.”

Manna said he had chats with BNP vice chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka. “Regarding the movement, I have said I support movement for democracy.”

Manna claimed that he talked about engaging students in the movement.

“There is nothing to do if a few people die in attacks by police or criminals as people are already being killed now,” he said, adding: “My statements have been distorted in such a way that I want bodies.”

Regarding talks with army officers, he wrote: “I said I would agree when I was asked whether I would be interested to have talks if any army officers express their interest for so,” he said.

“As I am in politics, I need to talk with various people,” he said, posing a question, “How a conspiracy of army coup or incident like 1/11 can be smelled as no such meeting was held?”

The leaked phone conversation between Manna and Khoka created quite a stir across the country today.
