Not war, agitation is for voting right, says Khaleda

KHALEDA-IFTAR-(2)_ED

She again renewed her call to all to join the anti-government movement setting aside differences at an Iftar at the National Press Club premises on Thursday.

The pro-BNP factions of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist (BFUJ) and the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) organised it.

Khaleda said: “People of the country are being oppressed and harmed at every step.”

“The people have no security, no employment. Poverty is increasing. Unemployed youths are passing days in frustration,” she added.

Khaleda said the government did not have the country’s development and people’s welfare at heart.

“They (government) are indulging in looting and corruption where there is money. The capital sees severe traffic congestions. Dhaka has turned into a dirty city,” she added.

“What is the condition of streets in Dhaka and of highways? Where is the government? Where are the works,” she questioned.

The BNP chief claimed that ‘no voting was held’ on Jan 5.

“Foreigners haven’t accepted that election. They asked for (a fresh round of) election immediately after discussion.”

“The country cannot be run by an unelected government. A democratic government has to be installed through a fair election.

“Only then will good governance be established, corruption removed,” she added.

Reiterating her call for anti-government movement after Eid, Khaleda said: “We haven’t asked for waging a war. We’ll protest against injustice and oppression after Eid.

“We’ll agitate for establishing people’s right to vote and rule of law.”

The former prime minister said journalists had been assaulted and tortured by hooligans of pro-government Bangladesh Chhatra League.

“No one other than ruling party people is doing well.”
