No way for N’ganj murderers to flee: PM

She slams Khaleda for her demand to disband Rab

Reaffirming her resolve to punish the Narayanganj murderers, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday urged all concerned to refrain from doing anything out of over-enthusiasm that might obstruct the investigation into the gruesome incidents and action against the culprits.

“I’ve never given indulgence to injustice and I won’t do either in the future. Where will the murderers of seven people flee? We’ll find the criminals out and punish them,” she said seeking cooperation from all in bringing the killers to justice.

The Prime Minister, also the president of Bangladesh Awami League, said this while delivering her introductory speech in the Awami League Central Working Committee (ALCWC) meeting held at Gonobhaban in the evening.

Sheikh Hasina reminded that a state has three organs — legislative, judiciary and executive. “Every one of these organs is supplementary to each other and those shouldn’t do anything that will deter the activities of each other.”

She also noted that everyone needs to understand the fact that the Executive has its own jurisdiction and it should be able to properly discharge its activities, as any over-enthusiasm or any order could put barrier to its activities.

Taking a dig at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for her demand for disbanding the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), Hasina said Begum Zia had constituted the force and during her rule and used it for political purpose, killing political leaders and giving the force immunity.

She alleged that the elite force had killed many leaders of Awami League, Jubo League in the name of Operation Clean Heart after 2001 as well as shut down the research centre of Awami League, CRI.

The Prime Minister said her government has acted quickly soon after the seven murders and all Rab and police personnel were transferred from Narayanganj. “But, some people have become overenthusiastic when we’re taking action against the seven murders, including five Awami League workers.”

In doing so, Hasina said, her government did not consider who is whose relative as the focus is on punishing the criminals.

Hasina also asked her central working committee members to remain careful about the intrusion of unruly activists of other political parties such as BNP and Jamaat-Shibir into Awami League. “They’re cutting down the tendons, hands, legs and body parts of genuine Awami League and Chhatra League leaders and creating troubles in the party,” she added.

She also urged all to have patience about the seven-murder case as whatever the steps the government has taken that were not against any demand and any movement.

“The government is very much aware of doing everything what is required for dealing with any injustice,” she added.

Continuing her scathing attack on Khaleda Zia, Hasina said the BNP chairperson is suffering from heartburns as the democratic process is still in place in the country after the January 5 election.

“You’ve (Khaleda) played with the fate of the country’s people on many occasions. The country’s people also need to remain aware so that Khaleda can’t play any such game in the future.”

Hasina also alleged that Khaleda Zia when she was in power unleashed state terrorism and attacked her opponents.

The meeting also discussed the country’s latest political situation and activities of the organization. It also chalked out programmes to observe the Six-point Day on June 7 and the founding anniversary of the party on June 23.

Awami League Presidium members and members of the central working committee were present at the meeting.

  1. “No way for N’ganj murderers to flee: PM”. Oh really – how come the main accused Lt. Col. Tarek, son-in-law of your Minister Maya has still not been arrested. Or is the PM sticking to an earlier statement where she said, “BNP are the murderers” and thus is preparing to use N.Ganj murders as another ploy to eliminate more of her political adversaries. Give us a break Madam PM, we have seen enough of your games. We rather employ a jackal to guard our hens than see you as continue as our PM. Longer you stay more the people of Bangladesh suffer!

  2. Tarek, son-in-law of Minister Maya?? OMG. Case is closed. Forget about what the illiterate PM said. Northing will happen in Bangladesh till these so called, leaders are gone and a new “blood” of Leaders come. A new generation of young, educated leaders, who will be able to turn this resourceful country into a real “Sonar Bangla”. Get rid of the hypocrats, please. I just don’t know anymore.
