US ambassador Stephens Bloom Marcia Bernicat on Monday hinted that the existing Bangladesh-US relations would not be affected by change of government following Tuesday’s US elections.

“The US election results won’t affect the existing US-Bangladesh ties as our foreign policy would remain intact for Bangladesh,” she said.

Rather, Bernicat hoped that the existing bilateral relations between the two countries would be further expanded in the coming days.

The US envoy made the remarks after a meeting with Awami League general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader at “Setu Bhaban” in Dhaka.

During the meeting, Bernicat talked about different issues covering contemporary politics and development of democratic environment, sources said.

The US ambassador while mentioning the US government’s support for Bangladesh’s socio-economic development said that the US investment in Bangladesh would be further enhanced in future.

She expressed the hope that democracy in Bangladesh would be further strengthened in greater national interest.

The US ambassador met Quader to greet him on his election as General Secretary of ruling Awami League recently.
