The Jessore district administration has appealed to everyone to bring down all foreign flags hoisted as a show of support for some of the favourite teams in the football World Cup.
Sharsha Upazila Executive Officer ATM Shamsul Islam said he had been asked to ensure this by the deputy commissioner on Monday.
He told bdnews24.com that he had already taken necessary steps.
The deputy commissioner had sent a letter, urging everyone to bring down foreign flags within 24 hours.
The letter cites Clause 9 (IV) of People’s Republic of Bangladesh Flag rules, which states “the flag of a Foreign State shall not be flown on any car or building in Bangladesh without the specific permission of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.”
But with the football World Cup round the corner, fans are hoisting the flags of their favourite countries on rooftops in violation of the flag rules.
As a mark of honour to the national flag, everyone has been requested to remove all foreign flags within 24 hours.
Md Najmul Alam, NDC of Jessore, said,”It’s not a directive. As per the national Flag rules, we have requested everyone to take off foreign flags.”
