No buses on highways after 9 at night

Long-route buses off after 9pm

Transport owners and workers’ leaders have decided temporarily not to ply buses on highways after 9:00pm.

They reached the consensus at a meeting with state minister for home Asaduzzaman Khan at home ministry.

The transport leaders hoped that if the risky spots become secured, passenger buses would begin to run as per regular schedule.

Asaduzzaman Khan said the previous schedule would be restored quickly after security measures at the risky locations.

“The situation on the highways is much better than that of previous 2-3 days,” the state minister claimed after the meeting.

Road Transport Owners’ Association secretary general Khandaker Enayetullah said, “We have decided that only passenger buses will not be permitted to operate on road after 9:00pm. We hope we will comeback to regular schedule within 2-4 days.”

Asked about the risky zone on the highways, the state minister and Enayatullah both said some spots in Gaibandha, Rangpur, and Chittagong are risky. We have already identified the vulnerable points, they added.
