Failing to get the permission of holding rally, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has decided to visit Narayanganj on the same day (Wednesday) to console the family members of seven-murdered victims.

Narayanganj district unit BNP President Taimur Alam Khandakar told Dhaka Tribune over phone that Khaleda Zia would come to Narayanganj on May 14 to express her sorrow and shock to the family members of slain Nazrul Islam and six others.

“Although we did not get the permission to hold rally in the city, Khaleda Zia will visit the city on the same day and the programme schedule is fixed. She will visit councillor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan Sarkar’s houses. If she could not visit the house of other victims, she will express sympathy to their family members also,” Taimur said.

She is to meet the family members of the victims and console them

Earlier, the party sought permission to hold a rally at Bangabandhu lane in Narayanganj on May 14, however the city corporation authority denied to give permission citing the ongoing condition of law and order.

After being refused from the city corporation the party then sought permission to the Deputy Commissioner for holding the rally at Alauddin Stadium, however the authority also denied to give permission.

Regarding the refusal, city Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy said: “The law and order situation of the city is vulnerable at the moment and the place BNP chose to gather hosts hospitals, so no public gathering will be allowed there.”

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was supposed to be present at the programme.
