N’ganj 7-murder accused Tarek Sayed hospitalised

Narayanganj seven-murder accused  Lt Col (retd) Tarek Sayed Mohammad has been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital under police custody.

The former RAB official was taken to the hospital from Dhaka Central Jail around 1:30pm Sunday after he complained of spinal cord pain, said Inspector Mozammel Haque, in-charge of DMCH police camp.

Tarek has been kept at the DMCH Neurosurgery unit 2 under the supervision of associate professor Dr Asid Chandra Sarker, he said.

When contacted, Dr Asid told the Dhaka Tribune: “The ex-RAB official was brought here [DMCH] after he complained of severe pain in the spinal column. Details regarding his sickness can be said once the medical tests are done.”

Three officials of RAB 11, including Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, were sent on forced retirement for their alleged involvement in the killings of seven people in Narayanganj.

On April 27, 2014, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver were abducted from Fatullah area in Narayanganj city. At the same time, senior lawyer of the Narayanganj District Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were abducted on their way to capital Dhaka.

Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan, were recovered from the Shitalakhya River on April 30.

Besides, the body of Jahangir, the car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the river on May 1.
