A new list of targets has been uploaded on the internet allegedly by Ansar Al Islam, the same militant group that previously claimed responsibility for the murders of several secular individuals.

The list was uploaded to the text-sharing site Justpaste.it. The list contained the names of 34 secular activists, bloggers and writers – most of whom live in Bangladesh but also some who lived abroad.

Titled “Who’s next,” the text read: “An identified list of Bangladeshi Activists, Blogger and intellectuals in worldwide who promote anti-Islamist group [sic]. They must die. Our All Mujahedin, this is our duty to slash their Head.”

In the final paragraph of the post, the group said the Mujahideen will target every apostates and enemies of Islam who are trying to insult Allah and prophet or religion of Islam. The post added that innocent Muslims were not their targets.

The note was signed off by Mufti Abdullah Ashraf, who claimed to be the spokesman for Ansar Al Islam, al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).

Although the authenticity of the list could not be confirmed, the website Justpaste.it has often been used by supporters of the Islamic State to disseminate information.

In this regard, Detective Branch Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam said the police believed the latest list was not a real threat, but were still investigating the issue seriously. The person who were posting such lists would be brought to justice, he added.
