News - National election likely in Dec, says Muhith
Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Wednesday hinted that the next general election might be held in December this year.
“The way things are moving, I think there’ll be election in December,” he said while speaking at a meeting with the leaders of the BCS Audit and Accounts Association at his Ministry. BCS Audit and Accounts Association President Senior Secretary Rokeya Sultana led the delegation.
Since the next general election needs to be held by January next year, the Finance Minister is not in favour of waiting till the last day for holding the polls. “I think nobody will be foolish to continue …till the last day and it won’t happen.”
Earlier during his Washington visit in April, the Finance Minister said the next general election would be held under an interim government.
He made the remarks while responding to queries from journalists in Washington at a function arranged to celebrate Bangla New Year 1420.
At today’s meeting, the Association leaders placed a number of demands before the Finance Minister for his consideration that includes making permanent the posts at various levels which are now going through retention every year, increasing the number of posts in the BCS (Audit and Accounts) cadre, filling some 1,200 class III vacant posts in the Audit and Accounts Department and making necessary budgetary allocation for completing the construction works of Audit Bhaban and Audit Complex.
