Around 100,000 Muslim devotees, including the President, Cabinet members, politicians, and diplomats will join the congregation.

Tight security measures have been adopted in this connection.

LGRD State Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak visited the main congregation ground on Tuesday.

Talking to journalists, he said, “The National Eidgah Maidan is ready for the Eid prayers. One lakh devotees will say their prayers here tomorrow [Wednesday].”

He said arrangements had been made for 5,000 women to say their payers at the Eidgah. Facilities are also in place for 140 people to perform their ablution at a time.”

Dhaka North City Corporation had taken steps to enable prayers to be held even in case of inclement weather, he said.

A massive four-tier security by police and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has insulated the Eidgah, the state minister said.

For the first time, modern equipment like mobile watch towers have been pressed into service to tighten security around the National Eidgah, Nanak said.

Md Jahangir, a policeman on duty at the Eidgah, said, “It was cleaned on Monday, canopies have been put up, and now carpets are being spread.”

Like in past years, closed-circuit cameras are being set up in and around the Eidgah.

Besides, police and RAB control rooms have been opened on the right and left of the Eidgah’s entry gate.

During the visit, the state minister was told that 233,000 sq ft had been prepared for the prayers.

Rain guards have been hoisted over 257,000 sq ft.

Replying to a reporters’ query, the state minister said, “Around 2,000 cleaners will remove sacrificial animal waste. The city will be cleaned within 48 hours.”

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benazir Ahmed visited the Eidgah earlier in the day before Nanak.

“We are trying our best to prevent any untoward incident. We hope we will succeed,” he said.

There would be a total of 300 congregations in the city under tight security, he added.
